Conservative LGBT community responds to Obama.


Empty, empty promises from the President. Here is the Log Cabin Republican's response to Obama's speech at the Human Rights Campaign Gala. We've heard the campaign stump speech--by the way, please inform the president he is no longer a candidate for president, but IS the president. Let's see some action!

OBAMA ADMINISTRATION HAS FAILED TO FOLLOW THROUGH ON PROMISES MADE TO LGBT COMMUNITY AND INSTRUCTED JUSTICE DEPT TO BLOCK EFFORTS TO OVERTURN 'DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL' POLICY

(Washington, DC) - Log Cabin Republicans issued the following statement in response to President Obama's speech Saturday at the Human Rights Campaign's gala:

"President Obama may have the highest level of respect for our community, but his lack of actual progress overshadows any kind of campaign-style promises he may make," commented Terry Hamilton - Log Cabin Republicans National Board Chairman. "Barack Obama is the President now - he gave the same speech tonight that we have heard many times before. Being an ally means that you need to need to not just 'have gay friends' but know what we are experiencing, and most importantly to do something about it."

President Obama tonight promised to repeal the damaging & dangerous "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. Currently, Log Cabin Republicans is the only organization with an active lawsuit given standing by the federal courts challenging the military's discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy and was the first case introduced on the issue after the landmark Lawrence decision. 

Despite the President's promise this evening, he has instructed his Justice Department to fight Log Cabin's lawsuit, as well as other court cases challenging this LGBT discriminatory policies. Find more information at :

The Biggest 7th grade classroom. Congress.


Yesterday, because there was nothing better to do, I turned my T.V. to CSPAN and watched the U.S. House of Representatives debate and vote on a resolution to rebuke Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) for his "you lie" outburst at President Obama during a joint session of Congress. 

The Democratic support was mainly carried by Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) who time and time again reminded those present that this was not a "political stunt", and that he "does not participate in partisan politics"--Mr. Clyburn, we the American people are not as dumb as you sounded in that weak defense of a resolution that did nothing to resolve the healthcare debate, control spending, address a monstrous deficit or any other thing that would be of benefit to the people of these United States. The house of the people is not a 7th grade classroom--it is there to serve a specific purpose, to carry out those responsibilities enumerated by the constitution, not to bicker and cause a scene in hopes of gaining an apology that has already been accepted by the person offended. 

Mr. Wilson was wrong in yelling "you lie" at the address to the congress, in decorum(as understood by the GOP, dems are another story) only, and promptly called the Presidents administration and apologized for the outburst. The President graciously accepted. In everyday America that apology would have been not only expected, but accepted. 

This resolution was party politics, it was a political stunt, and we know it! Had the Democrats really felt that it was a serious breach of house rules, they would have enacted real discipline such as censure. They didn't. Instead they reached for a wimpy resolution, all of 2 pages long, that had no real consequence to the Representative, then debated it for almost an hour, in order to distract the American people and I suppose buy time for their healthcare reform that is rejected by a majority of Americans. According to Rasmussen, 53% of Americans disapprove of the congressional healthcare proposals while only 42% approve of it. Hell, I'd want to buy time too--midterms are only a year away, and the clock is ticking, looks like some of our congress men and women know that their TIME IS UP!

On a more positive note the debate on the Resolution to Rebuke Congressman Wilson did do one great thing. It saved us the people money. As long as they are pulling ridiculous stunts like these, they are not spending our money.

He brings up one major tough point--The call to remain faithful to the oath that they both took--to "Support and Defend the Constitution of The United States...". This is what we should all be asking our representatives and senators both at home, and in D.C. From one native Washingtonian to another. Amen brother, AMEN!

I, David William Hedrick, a member of the silent majority, decided that I was not going to be silent anymore. So, I let U.S. Congressman Brian Baird have it. I was one questioner out of 38, that was called at random from an audience that started at 3,000 earlier in the evening. Not expecting to be called on, I quickly scratched what I wanted to say on a borrowed piece of paper and with a pen that I borrowed from someone else in the audience minutes before I spoke. So much for the planned talking points of the right wing conspiracy.

We DO need reform!


The other day I stood across the street from Congressman Jim Cooper's (D-TN) office to show that I am another American that believes we do need reform but that a public option is not the right fix. Rep. Cooper has refused to meet with his constituents in a public forum during the entirety of the August recess, so the public showed up to voice their opinion on legislation that will essentially lead to government controlled healthcare. Sounds like the congressman does not want to be held accountable. Don't worry Mr. Cooper, your accountability will be in the 2010 ballot box. 

This notion that the government will be able to drive down cost by offering a public plan actually sounds like a really good idea--so was Karl Marx's 'Communist Manifesto'. What you don't hear about is the fact that a government run option will do more damage than it will do good. That plan will lead to a severe cut into the free market incentive that our nation has been built on. It will strangle private insurance and force a vast majority of the population into the public option thus leading to government controlled healthcare. It will, and I say WILL lead to some form of rationing, since it is entirely impossible to give everyone, everything--thus the reason socialism ALWAYS fails. Don't take my word for it, ask the recipients of government run healthcare in developed nations like Great Britain and Canada, and try to name one country where Socialism has worked for the greater benefit of the people. 

We need to start talking about things like portable health insurance, tort reform and less federal regulation that prohibits the free market to actually function in a capitalist manner. This will do two important things; it will stabilize and drive down the cost of private insurance, and it will reinforce the incentive motive to offer better insurance and better health care. Competition always produces better options. Trust the ingenuity of the American people, not the horrible track record of government run programs. 

The federal government has failed at medicare, medicaid, social security and now "cash for clunkers" to name a few. The first three are on the verge of bankruptcy leaving nothing for future generations, and the latter by admittance of the federal government is lagging because they did not realize how much manpower it would take to process the program from consumer, to dealer to government reimbursement. Seriously!? They couldn't put a program together successfully that has to deal with miles per gallon, but they want us to trust them with healthcare--which accounts for over 1/6th of the U.S. economy. And not only are they asking for our trust, they want it fast, they want it now, and they are even threatening to ram it through on a parliamentary procedure called "reconciliation" or the "nuclear option" which requires only a simple majority vote and no room for honest, open debate, regardless of the fact that poll after poll shows that a growing majority of American's do not want the current plan offered by the government.

Aside from the American electorate being against the current healthcare legislation, Congress has absolutely no right to even make a decision regarding private citizens choices when it comes to things like healthcare. Those things are reserved to the states and to the people. There seems to be this trend of disregard for the Constitution of the United States. It is still a relevant and governing document that limits the powers of the Congress to certain enumerated rights--see Article I Section 8. The only provision that the left can point to is the welfare clause. It's used twice when referring to the powers of the federal government. Once in Article I Sec. 8, and another in the preamble. 

Here's a refresher on the preamble:
We the people of the United States in order to from a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, PROVIDE for the common defense, PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this constitution of the Unites States of America. 

The function right before the "promote the general welfare" is "provide for the common defense". The word "provide" and "promote" were picked on purpose by our founding fathers. It's no secret that they often for long hours argued over the verbiage to be used in the Constitution. "Provide" means they will do it, "promote" means they will do things that will encourage the people to do it. They are only authorized to do things that will promote the free market principles to regulate the welfare, not provide healthcare so that the free market cannot compete. 

Another case in point. If healthcare being a right means the government should provide it. Then our right to bear arms means the government should provide free guns to all citizens payed for with taxpayer money. Alas, free guns for all!

Madame Speaker, I think you have the American public confused. The astroturf activism you're speaking of more closely defines your supporters. I guess it's correct to exercise your constitutional rights as long as they don't oppose the Speaker of the House and the Democratic elite of D.C. 

Then again it would be a far stretch to even think that self-serving politicians like Pelosi (D-CA) have a clear grasp on the concepts of our founding documents.

The DNC wants you to shut the hell up.

The Democratic National Committee has launched a new ad calling concerned vocal American citizens who are attending Town Hall meetings with their senators and representatives an "angry mob". The ad was launched as a counter to the thousands of people turning out to voice their dissent and opposition to further government takeover of the capitalist private sector that is the essence of the Obama, Pelosi, Reid agenda. After a failed 6 month takeover of the America way of life, looming job-loss increases in a economic recession, and a failed attepmt at "swiftly" taking control of healthcare which accounts for more than 1/7th of the U.S. economy the liberals in D.C. are pissed that Americans, common people, the working class, and the their constituents are demanding that enough is enough. 

Every morning Americans of all ages start the day with a solemn oath of Allegiance. "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Let those who oppose civil discourse, fair and honest debate, dissent and the power of the people be reminded what a republic is. We are a nation in which the supreme power is held by the people through their elected representatives. 

Whether or not the people attending the Town Hall meetings are bused there, or share a common set of beliefs is besides the point. The DNC would have you believe that this "mob" is staged and angry. Staged, let's try informed. Angry, I'd say hell yeah. The American people are fed up with government interference in their lives, and their vocal enmity towards those senators and representatives who turn a deaf ear towards their constituencies better pay attention, work for the will of the people or get the hell out of Congress--the people have the power to vote you out, and trust them when they say they will.

The Senate just got a whole lot funnier!


The Democrats have finally got the 60 votes in the Senate they needed to block any filibuster put on by the Republicans. This magical 60 gives them even more power to ram through legislation that is not beneficial to our nation or it's people. The Stimulate nothing plan, Cap and Tax, Health Care "Reform" so on and so forth. To keep things streamlined we can just bundle these things into a tiny little package and top it off with a big Socialist ribbon! Hooray for Marxism!

Aside from a majority party severely abusing it's powers in a nation built on transparent, honest, and bipartisan debate, the road to the magical 60 has been the great laugh that we struggling Americans needed, especially in a time of great economic woes lead by politicians who are more often than not self-serving, secretive, dishonest, and diametrically opposed to passing on a nation that is better, to the next generation, as has been our great American tradition since 1776.

Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) is the lucky number 60 for the Democrats. How fitting and proper that the last contested seat in the Senate goes to a comedian and the former host of Saturday Night Live. Since, after all, the Democrats and the political establishment in Washington needed another clown to make decisions that affect every American regardless of party affiliation or ideology.

President Barack Flip-Flop Obama

The President of the United States of America is the laughing stock of the free (and oppressed) world. Somehow, as everyday passes we get a better glimpse of the joke that the American people were duped into believing, and his arrogance and naiveté becomes more of his legacy than any pseudo policy of change. Unless of course you believe that change for a weaker nation is change for the better.

In the previous weeks Obama was disgustingly silent on the issues surrounding the democratic freedoms of millions of Iranians who were being beaten, killed and silenced because of their vocal and peaceful opposition to an authoritarian government. To this the POTUS, defended his silence and lack of support by explaining that "we shouldn't meddle in the affairs of sovereign nations". Then this week he officially called for the reinstatement of Honduaran President Manuel Zelaya who was ousted by the Honduran military after both the Congress and the Supreme Court nullified an illegal referendum in which the president wanted to change the nations constitution to include ending presidential term limits. Sounds oddly familiar, Venezuela and Hugo Chavez, anyone!? So much for not meddling in the affairs of sovereign nations Mr. Obama. 

The silence of Obama on a movement for freedom, and his contrasting reaction to the Honduran incident are very indicative of the ideologies he holds. It wouldn't be a far stretch point out that our president has more Marxist notions than we thought. I hope--love using that word when speaking of "the one"--and pray that his reactions to these two defining incidents are not suggestive of what is to come for America. 

Adolf Hitler was a democratically elected president who with the severe manipulation of the German democracy, the silencing and eventual banning (sounds like the Fairness Doctrine!) of opposing parties views, along with the  Enabling Act and the Reichstag Fire Decree, voided presidential term limits and gained totalitarian control of a democracy and the rest is history. 

Speaking of history, here is the only lesson we ever really learn: Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it.

The GOP's recurring nightmare

Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC) is a clear example of what is wrong with the Republican party. The GOP is supposed to be the party of principle, or at least they try to sell it as that. Ask any South Carolinian two weeks ago whether they thought Gov. Sanford was a family-man and they would have probably answered with a confident "yes". Now, the national media, as well as the governor and his family have shed light on astonishing facts that he was involved in an affair and his 4 day hiatus was not the "hike in the Appalachians" as described by his staff, but a short rendezvous with a mistress in South America. What is even more astonishing is the Politico report that the governor had previously traveled to China and Brazil through the state's commerce department, logging a bill of $21,488 in travel expenses. All this from the staunches opponent of accepting funds from the federal stimulatenothing plan. I guess there would not have been no way to spend money like that if you had "strings attached to it". As for his family, they are in my prayers, and out of respect for his wife, children and the people of South Carolina, that is all that I will say about their governors indiscretion. 

There seems to be this trend in the political system as of late. Especially for the Republicans. Right when they think they have what it takes to gain control of the majority, something huge like this happens. This is massive when it comes to the Party of Lincoln, because morals and ethics hugely define the party as Republicans, the other side of the aisle could care less for anything close to ethics--hell, look at President Clinton, and dare I say it, Ms. Lewinsky. It was fine and dandy then and we were quick to squash impeachment because he was a Democrat. No issues here.

Now, I will say this for the Republicans, they do have a lot of rebuilding to do, and they do have a lot of great leaders that can take the the reins on a horse perceived to have gone wild. We the people are waiting for a great leader in a time that is void of real leadership. We want our politicians to say one thing, and then have the audacity to do it. After all, we vote you into office because we believe what you say on the trail. Remember that as we race towards both the 2010 and 2012 elections. 

Politicians regardless of party affiliation should also remember this. Political careers can die quickly, but "Government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from this earth."*

An Open Letter to Our Nation's Leadership By Janet Contreras

I'm a home grown American citizen, 53, registered Democrat all my life. Before the last presidential election I registered as a Republican because I no longer felt the Democratic Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you're willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now. You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would horribly feel so disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut job am I? Will you please tell me?

Well, these are briefly my views and issues for which I seek representation:

One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I'm not a racist. This isn't to be confused with legal immigration. 

Two, the TARP bill, I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you no, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.

Three: Czars, I want the circumvention of our checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution and honor it.

Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There is more to say.

Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night and then go on break. Slow down!

Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real obligations. Why don't you start there.

Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes. Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. I do not trust them with taking the census over with our taxpayer money. I don't trust them with our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate.

Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. I work for my money. It is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs. That is the only redistribution of wealth that I will support. I never got a job from a poor person. Why do you want me to hate my employers? Why ‑‑ what do you have against shareholders making a profit?

Nine, charitable contributions. Although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.

Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Sink or swim like the rest of us. If there are hard times ahead, we'll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. Have you ever ripped off a Band‑Aid? We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.

Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let's have it. Let's say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please try ‑‑ please stop manipulating and trying to appease me with clever wording. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me.

Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now.

Take a breath. Listen to the people. Let's just slow down and get some input from some nonpoliticians on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed reading our bills into law. I am not an activist. I am not a community organizer. Nor am I a terrorist, a militant or a violent person. I am a parent and a grandparent. I work. I'm busy. I'm busy. I am busy, and I am tired. I thought we elected competent people to take care of the business of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawn, wash our cars on the weekends and be responsible contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same all while living in the home of the free and land of the brave.

I entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. I believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think I find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not. It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. I am not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it but you should expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. I am sure that we still cannot. There is such urgency and recklessness in all of the recent spending.

From my perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on you to bring our concerns to Washington. Our president often knows all the right buzzword is unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don't want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we're morons.

We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate I guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented. You think we're so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work , pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone and we are now looking up at you. You have awakened us, the patriotic spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office. We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish. We didn't ask for this fight. But the gloves are coming off. We do not come in violence, but we are angry. You will represent us or you will be replaced with someone who will. There are candidates among us when hewill rise like a Phoenix from the ashes that you have made of our constitution.

Democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian. Understand this. We don't care. Political parties are meaningless to us. Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution and that is all that matters to us now. We are going to fire all of you who abuse power and seek more. It is not your power. It is ours and we want it back. We entrusted you with it and you abused it. You are dishonorable. You are dishonest. As Americans we are ashamed of you. You have brought shame to us. If you are not representing the wants and needs of your constituency loudly and consistently, in spite of the objections of your party, you will be fired. Did you hear? We no longer care about your political parties. You need to be loyal to us, not to them. Because we will get you fired and they will not save you. If you do or can represent me, my issues, my views, please stand up. Make your identity known. You need to make some noise about it. Speak up. I need to know who you are. If you do not speak up, you will be herded out with the rest of the sheep and we will replace the whole damn congress if need be one by one. We are coming. Are we coming for you? Who do you represent? What do you represent? Listen. Because we are coming. We the people are coming.

Iran--the preview.


Although all candidates in Iran are "vetted" by the Mullahs and hand chosen by religious clerics who compose the Assembly of Experts, their version of democracy is far from the purpose of a democracy. To provide government that is of, by and for the people.

Iran has kicked out all foreign media, attempted to block all internet communications, text-messaging and violently responded to non-violent protestors that are calling out the deception laid out by the bogus election. 

With that aside, Barack Obama's silence on the struggle for the Iranian people's freedom is deafening. I guess you can't say much when you envy a government that has total control over it's people, and tramples their liberties. Is this what he meant by diplomacy?

We are well on our way to Iranian-style state-run media. ABC is even launching an infomercial in an attempt to sell socialized, one-party, anti-capitalist "reformed" healthcare. They are even using the White House as the "newsroom". No wonder the one--err, I mean--the president loves these guys. They are in the boat for him. Chris Matthews has even said that he believes it is his job to make the Obama presidency "work...work successfully"! No Mr. Matthews, the job of a true journalist is to be as far away from the political establishment as possible so that you are credible when you hold them accountable.

The Problem with Palin.


Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) presents an unusual problem to the liberal agenda championed by the Democratic party.

She isn't afraid to challenge authority even within her own party. A politician who happens to be a woman that has the courage to oppose unethical practices regardless of party affiliation is someone to reckon with. Liberals do not like people who are able to stand on their own. They take pride in forcing others to "believe" in slogans like "hope".

She can maintain a balanced budget, and generate a surplus then have the brains to give it back to the people. She can manage a budget the way we are expected to within our own homes. This is a tenet not shared by liberals.

She perpetuates a favorable liking among her constituents, the people of Alaska. She can govern and does it well enough that she emulates the founding principle of "government for, by, and of the people". Liberalism teaches us thing like "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need." Classic Marxism--it does not work.

She is pro-gun, and not just in policy but in action. She is a lifetime member of the NRA, an avid hunter, and an advocate of the second amendment--our first fundamental right. Liberals cannot see a socialistic society come to fruition if the people are armed. Our constitution guarantees us this right, as the last defense against fascism. 

She is pro-life. Now let's not misconstrue the term to be pro-perfect. She believes in the right to life with enough conviction that although it might be politically unpopular, she time and again has proven this--through both her family, and her governing.

She is a good-looking conservative woman--refer to post Conservative Women vs. Liberal Ones, 6/7/09. Enough said. 

She is a woman that happens to believe in the Constitution of the United States, and she is CONSERVATIVE. Any politician who happens to be liberal and female would never have undergone the same ruthless treatment Gov. Palin has. The media would not have allowed it, there would have been public outcry, and the sky would have fallen. 

The list could go on.

Guess that explains why David Letterman is getting a pass on suggesting that her 14 year old daughter was "knocked-up" by Alex Rodriguez in the 7th inning; referred to the governors appearance as "a slutty stewardess"; and on and on and on. He is a fine specimen of why comedians should be that. Comedians, not political activist. 

It's actually disgusting to think about the inferences Letterman crafted. Makes me think of a sick old womanizer, that happens to get his rocks off on pedophiliac thoughts aimed at the children of conservative women.

Way to go old man!

Happy Birthday America!

The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America guarantees the citizens of this nation rights that are "endowed by their creator" which are "inalienable".  This is the reason why the U.S. continues to be the brightest beacon of freedom and liberty that has ever shone. 

We are the only civilization in the history of the world that is guided by these unalienable rights. Rights that are given to us directly from our creator and not from the government. We as a people are accountable to our faith and safeguarding those rights we hold sacred such as life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and that the government is accountable to it's people.

The realization that our rights are not given to us by the government stands in stark contrast to the tenants outlined in any communist manifesto, or socialist agenda. This is the reason those forms of government have failed time and time again. Socialistic government forces the people to believe that their rights are gifted to them by their government, and that they are totally and fully accountable and in service to it. History has taught us that government which believes it is big enough to give you everything, will eventually view itself as big enough to take everything.

Conservative women compared to liberal ones.

This entry is going to be a little bit on the light-hearted side of things. 

You can almost always tell a conservative woman from a liberal one. Even before they express their views. It's just a pattern I noticed, and I though I'd share it with you. You decide for yourself. 

I do believe that because liberalism is based on always playing the victim, ruthlessly blaming others for your own mistakes, and misguided, unrealistic and extremely idiotic views, that defending liberalism(as hi-jacked by American politics) tends to "age" people. 

Conservative and classy seem to go hand in hand.

Senate confirms override of Bredesen veto.

The Tennessee legislature has voted to override Gov. Phil Bredesen's (D) veto of HB0962 which allows handgun permit holders the right to lawfully carry their firearms in establishments that serve alcohol for consumption as long as the citizen is licensed to carry and not consuming alcohol. This measure further solidifies the second amendment rights of Tennesseans.

The house passed the measure on Wednesday by a margin of 69-27. The senate passed the override today by a margin of 21-9. According to the Tennessee Constitution, an override of a veto only requires a simple majority vote in each chamber. The bill passed both times with overwhelming support in each chamber.  

The measure is a strong message of confidence in responsible Tennesseans who are law-abiding citizens. 35 other states have similar laws including 6 that border the state, with no incidence of abuse by licensed permit holders. It's about time we get some common sense legislation. 

This common sense law will go into effect July 14, 2008 per Tennessee state law.

TN House OVERRIDES Governors veto of HB0962

The Tennessee House of Representatives re-passed HB0962, the "restaurant carry bill", by a vote of 69-27 to override the veto handed down by Gov. Phil Bredesen. 

The bill which passed the senate by a vote of 26-7 before being sent to the governor which he vetoed, needs only a majority vote in both chambers of the assembly according to the state constitution. 

Thank you to all of our representatives that have kept the balance of power in tact in the state of Tennessee. The bill which initially passed with more than a 2/3 vote of support in both houses, now awaits it's second vote in the senate.

To our senators, vote to override. Respect the constitutional right of Tennesseans.

We need more representation like this...


Just want to thank Rep. Curry Todd (R-Collierville) for sponsoring HB0962, the "restaraunt carry bill" and heading up the override of the veto sent down from Gov. Bredesen in a swift and timely manner. 

We have the votes in both chambers of the Tennessee legislature to ensure that the second amendment rights of all Tennesseans are protected.

Iran and peaceful nuclear aspirations


In an interview with the BBC, President Obama said that Iran has a right to nuclear energy explaining that "Iran has legitimate energy concerns, legitimate aspirations" and that they should be able to develop nuclear technologies if it is to be used in a peaceful way.  

Has the President of the United States lost his damn mind! 

What would it take show that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has peaceful intentions in developing nuclear energy? Perhaps, a "cross my heart, hope to die, poke a needle in my eye," or how about just a pinky swear?

Ahmadinejad, denies the holocaust, wishes for the annihilation of the Jewish community, has verbally expressed an interest in "wiping Israel of the map", and is the leader of a rogue government that is at it's core anti-American--with the expressed interest of wiping America and other non-muslim nations off the face of the earth. Yes, I am sure that the nuclear aspirations of Iran is not anything but a peaceful attempt to wean their country of it's money-making addiction to oil.

During the campaign, President Obama was committed to seeing to it that Iran does not have access to nuclear technology, and was adamant that they halt their development of nuclear abilities. Why the sudden change of heart? Something tells me that it has a lot to do with the next apology tour he is about to embark on, his tour of the muslim world. Whoever his adviser is should probably advise him of what a weak fool they perceive him and essentially America as,  because of his administrations cowardly words and actions. 

Does anyone in Washington D.C. realize that the "quest for nuclear energy" is the same story Kim Jong Il, the dictator of North Korea told the world when it began developing it's nuclear facilities. Now we are faced with a North Korea that views itself as a nuclear power, and they are blatantly flexing their muscles at a weak administration. The threatening actions by North Korea in the first few months of the Obama presidency outnumber the negative activities executed by Kim Jong Il than in the entire Bush administrations eight years. Go figure. Let's not forget that Korea is now within striking distance of the United States.

President Obama, this time please do not apologize for the U.S., we have long endured the battle scars essential to liberty both here at home, and in the greater world. We have a lot of things to be proud of. Your apologies and apathy towards America's historical significance are not one of them.

Veto override NOW!


On Thursday Gov. Phil Bredesen (D-TN) vetoed a bill that would have allowed handgun carry permit holders the right to carry their firearms in restaurants that serve alcohol, as long as that place of business was not restricted to patrons who are 21 and older that require identification checks for entrance.  The bill, HB0962, which would have strengthened the second amendment rights of Tennesseans also carried a strict prohibition on the consumption of alcohol while carrying a firearm, as is already federal and state law. 

Gov. Bredesen explained that "As a young man growing up in a small town, I attended a gun safety class in my high school sponsored by the National Rifle Association. A basic tenet taught in that class was this: “Guns and alcohol don’t mix.” This seemingly common sense proposition is as true today as it was almost 50 years ago." Using that justification to veto the bill begs the question-- Did he even read the bill!? The bill was in no way, shape, or form, an endorsement of drinking while carrying firearms, so there wouldn't be this mix of "guns and alcohol". The bill in the context that it arrived to his desk would have allowed law abiding citizens who already carry responsibly to take their firearms with them into restaurants as opposed to leaving them in their cars, or not carrying at all. Just think about that logic for a second...now think about all the places where alcohol is present. Presence of alcohol should not be confused with consumption of alcohol.

Let's face it, if the bill were to pass, the "wild west" mantra that this bill was vetoed on would have been a non-issue. 30+ other states have similar policies that allow their citizens to arm themselves within the context of the law, and have had success with it. The fact is this bill was an affirmation of the rights of Tennesseans who are law-abiding. The bill also would have allowed restaurants the ability to control their own businesses privately by allowing them to post "no-carry" signs if they wished to ban handguns from their premises. The idea that Tennessee would have become a wild west movie gone bad was championed by Ronal Serpas, the Chief of Police for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. Let me remind you Chief Serpas, you are an appointed official, not an elected official. Your role is to enforce the laws already in place, not create new policy. 

The bill which was sponsored by Rep. Curry Todd (R-Collierville), received more than 2/3 support from both chambers of the general assembly before being sent to the Governors desk. In vetoing the bill, the Governor clearly abused his discretion. The house and senate could override his veto with simple majority votes in both chambers, and I hope they do.

Gov. Bredesen who has painted himself as a staunch supporter of Tennesseans right to keep and bear arms, broke promises about this legislation that he made when campaigning. Governor, bear in mind the words of Lincoln. Trust your citizens.

Memorial Day















This Memorial day, lets not forget the real reason we "celebrate" this holiday. It is a day that we as American's set aside to remember those who have died for the freedoms that we enjoy. America has endured every struggle that has faced her because brave men and women stood up when she called, and when necessary offered a great sacrifice, their lives. 

The greatest testament of loyalty to any nation, is that it's citizens would be willing to give their lives for it. I think we can learn something from those men and women who have gone before us, and believed in America so much that they would give the ultimate sacrifice. They are true heroes. True champions, and defenders of the Constitution. The men and women who serve in the military unselfishly do what is asked of them, and they do an impressive job. That yearning to defend something so great is passed from generation to generation, and this generation has definitely risen up to meet the challenges of today, to give of themselves for a greater purpose. I think Abraham Lincoln says it best in his Gettysburg address:

"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. Buyer's remorse.















Like the Constitution the words of wisdom by one of our founding fathers William Penn still ring true today. Penn is credited with saying:

"Right is right, even if everyone is against it; and wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it."

The other day a good friend e-mailed me with what I would term as "buyer's remorse". The subject of the conversation was implicitly the direction our new President is taking this nation, and the explicit realization that she wished she could "get her vote back". This kinda thing really excites me. That excitement does not come from a realization that I articulated an argument powerful enough that in hindsight it still lingers, rather I am excited that she is interested in what is going on with the direction of this country.

I was probably not a popular person to talk to during the elections of 2008. I was a staunch opponent of Barrack Obama, and I went to an art school that was overwhelmingly liberal in ideology. I wasn't swept into the new "hip" campaign that had an awesome brand and great use of a helveticaesque typography (design-wise, they branded an awesome product with an effective campaign),  put on by the Democrats, and like I never do, I was not impressed with the color of either of the major party's candidates skin. I was interested in the issues, in our historical tradition, and in the direction that either person would take us.

I may seem like an oddball, because I am an art major, who is still comparatively(to other politicos) young in age, that happens to take a peculiar interest in politics and government, but I wish everyone with the power to vote took a serious interest in politics, or at the very least does the research to know what the candidate actually stands for, as opposed to what they say they stand for. In the end they are at best politicians, and generally will govern in-line with the same convictions that make-up their past voting record. 

Realization of the awesome gift our forefathers gave us in the ability to control the direction of our country with something so simple as a vote is really the greatest blessing they have secured for us as a people. What we do with that vote has a direct impact on the future we will secure for ourselves and our posterity. 

Do it wisely.

To Protect and Serve.

Anthony Warren, and five officers from Birmingham, Alabama are in the national spotlight after a high speed chase ended in a crash and a beating. The high speed chase endangered the lives of other citizens, and almost took the life and seriously injured another officer who was trying to "slick" the tires of Warren's vehicle in order to effect a stop. The chase ended when Warren's vehicle flipped over on the side of the highway, and ejected him out of his van. The officers are seen on the tape rushing towards Warren and beating him.


There has been an outcry to what the media has dubbed an unjustified use of force. I beg to differ. The men and women who wear the uniform of our nation's law enforcement are called to a higher standard coupled with a strenuous call to duty. Through the rigors of every aspect of there jobs they form an unprecedented level of loyalty and brotherhood that is probably misunderstood by many who do not feel the need to answer the call of their nation, states, counties, or towns. 

I could only imagine the utter frustration those officers felt when the suspect they were trying to safely apprehend would not comply due to his lack of respect for the law. Further, I can't even begin to verbalize the aggravation and disbelief they experienced at the sight of one of their own being targeted by a criminal that had every intention of stopping that officer from performing his duty. 

Their duty is to protect and serve. It is by this oath that everyday, those brave men and women dawn their uniforms and mount their badges over their hearts. To protect  law abiding citizens from imprudent criminals such as Anthony Warren, who obviously shows no regard for the lives of others.

Policing for the sake of being politically correct has become the "soft arm of the law", as opposed to it's original purpose as the "strong arm of the law". The job in itself requires the utter respect of the citizens they serve. As with any other person, they are people, they have emotions they act on, and make some mistakes as we do. This incident however was not a mistake. It was not unjustified, and those officers should not have been decommissioned. 

Some advice to the media:
1. Bad news can be good news, if it is definitely BAD news!
2. Stop turning criminals into victims.

Some advice for Anthony Warren:
1. Try to follow the law--good advice to keep you from nasty situations like yours.
2. When an officer is trying to stop you, STOP!
3. Have respect and concern for the life and safety of other citizens.
4. Do not try to harm officers, especially in the presence of his brethren.
5. Don't speed, and for God's sake, wear your seatbelt--click it or ticket!

Pervasive inaccuracy.


Nancy Pelosi(D-CA) the current Speaker of the House has said in reports earlier this year that she did not know that tactics such as waterboarding were used to interrogate terrorist under the Bush Administration. She was a leading congressional member that called for indictments of former top U.S. officials regarding what has been dubbed by the mainstream media as torture.

In February 2003, Michael Sheehy, Rep. Pelosi's intelligence aide attended a briefing in which the CIA's use of waterboarding was discussed. When Pelosi was informed by Sheehy that the tactic was in use, she did not object.  

Aside from waterboarding not actually being torture, in both the connotation and denotation of the word, there is a bigger issue here. Speaker Pelosi has lied to the American people, repeatedly on the subject to aid in the concoction of a negative attitude towards Bush 43's policies that has kept this nation safe post-911. As the third most powerful person in the world she has bamboozled the American people, and created an unnecessary distraction at a time when the focus should be on the outrageous spending, the debt we have left to our posterity and the march towards socialistic government that her party, and our president have rammed through congress, and signed into law. 

Speaker Pelosi's willingness to deceive the American people in order to further advances her far-left idiosyncrasies says something about the person she is. Congress ought to censure her if they are to gain the trust and respect of the people. Last time I checked, the House and Senates approval rating's were hovering around 30%--this will sure lead to a loss in points. We need a legislative body that we can trust.

Madam Speaker you knew and mislead the people you serve. Shame on you!

Happy Mother's Day!











Today we celebrate each and every one of our mothers. We celebrate them because of how unique they are to us. My mom is everything to me. It is because of her that I am the person I am today, and the person I hope to be in the future. The sacrifices she has made to get myself, and my brothers and sister to where we are today are a testament of her enduring love for us, and her perpetual devotion to the sacred duty given to her as a mother. The upbringing of her children.

I can remember being a really young kid and admiring my mother, she had strength like no one I knew. Now, my childhood wasn't exactly picturesque. My real father was an abusive alcoholic who lacked the decency that is required of fathers, my mother was the extreme opposite. After being put through hell and high water, she came to what was probably one of the hardest decision in her life. To divorce, pack some clothes up, and move herself, and my siblings to the "mainland"(people on Guam call the contiguous states the mainland). We did it on a whim, and I can remember the day we left. It was hard, considering the strength of Chamorro(natives to Guam)  families, that we would be living the distance of a 14 hour plane-ride away, in Washington state. 

Although I cite that particular situation as the main reason for moving to the mainland, there were others. My mother wanted something better for us. In the face of the failing education system on Guam she realized that the opportunity for us to become successful would greatly suffer if we were to be brought up in the islands public school system. The schools in Washington gave us a leaping board to launch whatever our dreams could possibly conjure up. And my mom, was right by our side. She was the strong foundation that has carried each of us to where we are today, and continues to be that strength.

I could not even begin to illustrate the tip of the iceberg that is my mom. It would be impossible to itemize all that she had to forfeit in order for me to gain. She is an amazing person, woman, and mother.

She is the definition of undying love and devotion. To this day, I cannot grasp a better example of Christian motherhood, and the duties and responsibilities given a mother by her creator, than that of my mom. She is a vibrant example of the apex of motherhood, the lady that will always hold a special place in my heart that cannot be replaced with anything. It is beyond comprehension the level of strength and actual true love that is emulated by her. 

Mom, Happy Mother's day! Thank you for everything you have done for me.

Sovereignty!


The State of Tennessee is currently moving legislation through the general assembly affirming the sovereign right of the state to govern itself as indicated by the 1oth Amendment of the United States Constitution. The resolution, House Joint Resolution 108(HJR 108) demands that the federal government "halt it's practice of assuming powers and of imposing mandates upon the states for the purposes NOT enumerated by the Constitution of the United States."

This resolution introduced in February 19, 2009, by Representative Susan M. Lynn (R-Mt. Juliet), passed the Civil Practice and Procedure Sub-committee on May 5th, and is now referred to the Judiciary Committee's calendar for May 13th. The bill has strong support from the General Assembly, and Tennessee is one of a growing number of states that are reclaiming state sovereignty guaranteed by the 10th amendment of the Constitution.  The bill introduced by Lynn, also refers to the Supreme Court Ruling in New York v. United States 112 S. Ct. 2408 (1992), which reaffirmed the rights reserved to the states, and declared that congress "may not simply commandeer the legislative and regulatory processes of the states."

In a time of a growing federal government, resolutions like HJR 108, are necessary to reaffirm that we are a nation guided by Constitutional law for the purpose of serving the people. The issue of states rights were included in the original texts of the constitution in order to further strengthen a balance of powers, remove the possibility of totalitarianism, and create the greatest and most successful form of government this world has ever seen. States as intended by the founding fathers, are little areas of experimental government that are directly accountable to their citizens. They have the right to legislate themselves, and serve the specific needs of their constituents. As citizens of the United States we are granted rights to control our government, and when necessary, move to another state that more closely resembles our ideological, social, and political beliefs. This is the beauty of American government. 

With an increasingly overreaching federal government, that does not respect the rights of the states, the ability of the government to serve it's constituents is greatly diminished. A strong federal government that paralyzes the ability of states to govern themselves is a reversion to the form of government that sparked the creation of these United States, independence from a single government head, the Monarchy of King George III, and the tyranny that has always been the product of governments that do not rely on individual rights and a system that is void of checks and balances.

I call on the House and Senate of the State of Tennessee to resoundingly pass this resolution, and I strongly urge Governor Phil Bredesen(D-TN) to show his full support for this measure, the people of Tennessee, and the privilege of the state to retain those powers not delegated to the federal government by the Constitution.

Thanks for your service but...


Although I admire the service of General Colin Powell, I don't think that he is a reliable source when it comes to what the Republican party needs to do, and which direction it needs to head. Gen. Powell lost all his credibility when he endorsed Barrack Obama for President. As the former Secretary of State to the Bush Administration, that endorsement negated everything I thought he stood for when he was in actual service to the nation. He flip-flopped on policies that he convinced the American people as well as the rest of the world about. His endorsement of a "change" in agenda was an endorsement for an agenda that was the antithesis of everything I knew of him. He went from a defender and perpetuator of capitalism, to a crony of socialism. 

He's at it again! His attacks on Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and Governor Sarah Palin are unfounded and probably play a key note to the ultimate goal of the company he is currently keeping. The total destruction of the party he once claimed close ties to. I'm not sure how moving more to the left would help Republicans. They tried it in the last four years of George W. Bush's administration, and the Democrats took majorities in the house and senate for the last two years of Bush's term in office. Then they tried it again with the nomination of John McCain, and the Democrats won that election. Moving farther away from conservatism, and closer to a one party system is not a plan for victory. 

The plan should be to go back to Republican ideals. Ideals of fiscal responsibility, smaller government, less taxation, less spending, accountability, social conservatism and liberty that stand in stark contrast to the current administrations agenda. The only way to achieve victory in 2010 and 2012 is by returning to the party of true conservatism. Conservatives, independents, and moderates are fired up, they are fed-up, and they want real change. That change needs to come with the replacement of pseudo Republicans like Olympia Snow and Susan Collins--thank goodness Arlen Specter took the initiative already--and a strong fiscally and socially conservative agenda coupled with a continuous opposition to the expansion of government already in play by congressional Democrats and the current administration.

Of course if the Republican party wants to absolutely purge itself from the political picture, and become just another story from the past, they can always take the advice of General Powell. What the party needs is a leader. Not some washed-out, flip-flopper, thinking he has enough credibility to convince conservative Americans that conservatism is dead.

Mr. Powell, conservatism is definitely not dead!

Iowa's Indiscretion.


The State of Iowa through the power of their Supreme Court has just legalized same-sex marriage. Although this is an advancement in the struggle that the lesbian and gay communities have and continue to fight so hard for, the achievement was not garnered in a responsible way. As a gay man, decisions like these cause me to feel both jovial and despondent at the same time. I am happy to see advancements, and thrilled that the issue of equality for the LGBT community has not faded away. However, it is still a debatable and hotly contested issue. In due time we will come to a strong resolve as a nation through state by state ratification. A resolve of equal opportunity for all.

The biggest issue with the process that has legalized same-sex marriage in Iowa, as well as other states, is that it was not with the consent of the people. I think this is the biggest problem with the gay community, we want to sit back and hope that someone, somewhere else will do something about advancing the cause for equality. If we truly were committed to changing the laws, and even the state and national constitutions, rulings from courts, or mandates from legislative bodies will always face huge challenges. Our challenge is to inspire one another, those closest to us, and those we can engage in meaningful conversation as to the need for impartiality before the law. The courts, along with the politicians in Washington and our state capitals cannot do this, and when they try to impose something that most carry outdated notions about, it is sure to meet fierce resistance.

The only valid way to change any constitution in a democracy such as ours, with the least resistance possible, and as intended by the founding fathers is through the consent of the people. If the people do not popularly consent to any idea facing the nation, or a particular state, then the courts, nor the legislatures, nor the executives can force them to. The substantial issue in Iowa is that the courts have overstepped the confines of their power, by handing down an opinion that is in direct contrast with the legislature of Iowa. One branch cannot have more power than the other, this is the sacred belief established by the framers of this nation in the balance of powers doctrine, a constitutional safe-guard that prevents our democracy from becoming a totalitarian society. 

The work is ours to do. The peoples to do. Let's change it that way, by capturing the hearts and minds of other fellow American's whether they be heterosexual or homosexual. It is only with the consent of the people that the equality that we so desperately crave can be achieved. 

In times like these, it is fitting to remember that the role of the government is to serve the people, not vise versa.
